Meet JT

JT Bigelow, who is the founder of Monstrous Cookies, LLC, has not had the best of luck finding a job….period. After many attempts to get interviews and fill out job applications, he continuously found that no business would hire him. That is when JT took matters into his own hands.
He was determined to create his own business that would allow him to do what he
enjoyed as well as give opportunities to other like-minded individuals who are also on the Autism Spectrum, as well as other disabled individuals who are experiencing the same frustrations about finding a job. That is when a cookie business came to mind. A business that could help JT improve his communication skills and allow him to be himself, as well as teach him discipline and day to day job skills as will be needed in his daily life in the future.

Through the assistance of the San Diego Regional Center’s Coordinated Career Pathways, in conjunction with the Self-Determination Program, JT was able to work with experts in the field of micro business development, in order to build a business plan, tailored to his strengths and interests. His father, Devin, stepped in to fund the business and to help with organization, licensing, and day-to-day operations. The business is a fascinating experiment, with each day bringing new understanding to the challenges that Autism brings to families. Yet, it also shows the beautiful reality, which is a blessing that every family can relate to.
